HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lady Knights loaded the bases in each of the first two innings but were unable to plate a run until Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) drove in Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) in the top of the third with a hard hit down the left field line.
  • West Virginia State tied it up in the bottom of the inning when Emily Moore scored Kayleigh Thompson on an RBI single to left field.
  • Gannon had a three-home run inning in the fifth, sparked by Taliani's solo-shot to right field. The next at bat, Tanilli belted another solo home run to left field. Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) joined in the party with a solo homer of her own to center field to put the Lady Knights up 4-1.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, WVSU got back one run on Callie Huck's RBI. Shian Meeks popped up to Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) at second base to end the game with two runners on base.
