Gannon Softball Team Routs Seton Hill in NCAA Atlantic Regional First Round, 10-1

THE RUNDOWN
  • Score: Gannon 10, Seton Hill 1 (5 Innings)
  • Records: GU (30-12) | SHU (23-16)
  • Location: Culpepper Field – Buckhannon, W. Va.
  • The Short Story: The third-seeded Gannon softball team opened the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional with a 10-1 win over sixth-seeded Seton Hill at Culpepper Field in Buckhannon, W. Va. The Lady Knights poured seven runs on the Griffins in the second inning and added another three in the fourth to seal the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Seton Hill recorded one run in the first inning when Devyn Terry scored Brooke Bower from second base on an RBI single to center field.
  • Gannon rallied from the 1-0 deficit in the second inning with six hits and seven runs. Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) drove home Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) on a hit to left field to tie it up.
  • Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) put the Lady Knights up 3-1 with a single to left, scoring Smith and Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic).
  • Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) stepped up to the plate and hit a three-run homer to left field to stretch Gannon's lead to 6-1. Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) capped the inning with an RBI hit to right field, scoring Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes).
  • The Gannon defense limited Seton Hill to just two more hits across the next three innings.
  • In the fourth inning, Ingerick drove home pinch-runner Nicole Bush (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) with her fourth RBI of the game. The next at-bat, Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) crushed her 11th homer of the season, a two-run shot to right center to make it 10-1.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Ingerick finished the game with a team-high four RBI.
  • Martinez was 3-for-3 with two RBI.
  • Stocker had two RBI, while Tanilli and Smith had one apiece.
  • Gannon out-hit Seton Hill, 9-5.
  • Seton Hill committed three errors.
  • PSAC West Pitcher of the Year Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) improved to 15-5 with the complete-game performance.
