HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Edinboro took advantage of two Gannon errors during its first at-bat to grab an early lead with three unearned runs.
  • Gannon cut into the deficit with a pair of runs during the bottom of the second inning. Both runs crossed the plate on a two-out single by freshman Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe).
  • The Lady Knights took the lead for good with four runs during the third inning. Back-to-back two-out RBI singles by sophomore Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and senior Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) gave Gannon its first lead of the afternoon. Stocker and sophomore Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) later drew consecutive bases-loaded walks to double the Fighting Scots 6-3.
  • Gannon busted the game open with another four-run outburst in the fourth inning. Freshman Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) began the explosion with her second home run of the season. Sophomore Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) then gave the home team a 9-3 lead with a two-out, two-run single down the right field line and later scored the final run on an error.
  • Neither team dented the run column during the final three innings, before Gannon captured a 10-3 victory.
