  • The Short Story: The Gannon softball team played Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe California (Pa.) to a doubleheader split Saturday afternoon. The Lady Knights shut out the Vulcans 7-0 in game one but fell 3-2 in the second game of the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
  • Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) broke a no-hitter with a two-run, two-out home run in the fourth inning, her seventh of the season.
  • The Lady Knights plated three runs in the fifth inning on three bases-loaded walks to make it 5-0.
  • With two outs in the seventh inning, Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) smacked a two-run double to right center, scoring Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) and Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area).
 
GAME NOTES – GAME ONE
  • Stocker led Gannon with three RBI, while Tanilli had two.
  • Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) had a team-high two hits.
  • Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) tossed her fifth shutout of the season with a three-hit complete game. She struck out five batters to match her season-high in strikeouts.
  • For the sixth time in her last seven appearances, Beining did not record a walk.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
  • Gannon got out to a one-run lead in the first inning when Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) scored from second on a dropped fly ball.
  • The Vulcans scored a pair of unearned runs in the second to take a 2-1 lead.
  • California built on their lead in the third when Abby Sachse scored Jacquelyn Fowler on a single to right center.
  • Gannon got one run back in the top of the seventh when Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) scored on Martinez's infield groud-out.  
 
GAME NOTES – GAME TWO
  • Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led Gannon with two hits, while Martinez had an RBI.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) was tagged with the loss after four innings of work in the circle.
  • Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) tossed two scoreless relief innings.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon ranked No. 4 in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings. California (Pa.) is ranked seventh.
  • Stocker's seven home runs this season ranks fourth in the PSAC.
  • Gannon's 23 home runs this season also ranks fourth.
  • Martinez has reached base safely in 12 consecutive games.
  • Gannon's pitching unit has a conference-best 1.90 ERA.
