GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
  • In a defensively sound game, Mercyhurst registered one hit apiece in the second and fourth inning. Gannon did not record a hit until Ingerick's single up the middle in the fifth inning.
  • Rookie Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) opened things up in the seventh inning with a lead-off single to center field. Tanilli entered the game as a pinch runner for Stocker and stole second during the next at-bat. With two outs, DeMatteis smacked a walk-off single to deep right center that scored Tanilli from second base.

GAME NOTES – GAME ONE
  • The Lady Knights out-hit the Lakers, 3-2.
  • DeMatteis, Ingerick and Stocker recorded one hit apiece.
  • Sophomore Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) was credited with the win for the Lady Knights. She logged two strikeouts in her sixth complete game this season.
  • Mercyhurst's losing pitcher Tori Pierucci struck out nine batters.
  • Gannon and Mercyhurst both went error-free in the opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
  • The Lakers got out to a two-run lead in the first inning of game two when Lindsey Parese hit a two-run double to center field.
  • Stocker crushed a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the inning to make it 2-1.
  • In the third inning, Jolene Teller drove in Sarah Koscho from first base with a double to center to extend Mercyhurst's lead back to two runs.
  • Stocker recorded another RBI in the bottom of the inning with a double to center, scoring sophomore Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic).
  • Trailing one run in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded, junior Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) tied things up when she was hit by a pitch, scoring junior pinch runner Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township). With no outs and the bases loaded, Ingerick came up to bat and scored Tanilli on a walk-off single to left center.

GAME NOTES – GAME TWO
  • Stocker went 3-for-4 with two RBI in game two.
  • Ingerick had two hits, while Tanilli, Morgan and sophomore Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) had one apiece.
  • Freshman Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) earned the win for the Lady Knights. She made six strikeouts in five innings of work. Beining got the start and fanned one batter in two innings.
  • Gannon and Mercyhurst both registered eight hits each.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The wins against Mercyhurst are Gannon's first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) wins of the season.
  • Gannon's three hits in game one matches a season-low. The Lady Knights also recorded three hits in the 3-2 loss to Shepherd on March 10.
  • Stocker smacked her team-leading fourth home run in game two.
  • Tanilli plated the game-winning run in both games.
  • The sweep is Gannon's first doubleheader sweep of the season.
  • The pair of victories marks the third and fourth time this season that Gannon has won by just one run.

UP NEXT
  • The Lady Knights will head to Clarion on Wednesday for a makeup doubleheader against the Golden Eagles.
  • Game one of the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
