Gannon Women's Lacrosse Team Falls to No. 21 Indiana (Pa.) in PSAC Action

  • The Short Story: The No. 21 Indiana (Pa.) women's lacrosse team scored the first six goals en route to a 13-3 lead and posted a 20-7 victory against Gannon Wednesday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Indiana (Pa.) was off and running with the first six goals of the contest.
  • Junior Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) briefly stopped the momentum with a free-position goal at the 23:49 mark.
  • After IUP scored two more times, Gannon rallied with back-to-back free-position goals from junior Kat Martinelli (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) and sophomore Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) to cut the deficit to 8-3 nearing the midway point of the first half.
  • Indiana (Pa.) countered with five straight tallies to grab a double-digit lead at 13-3.
  • Senior Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) then netted a goal during her first action since March 31, scoring unassisted with 8:37 showing on the clock.
  • IUP added two more scores during the final four minutes and went to halftime with a 15-4 advantage.
  • Gannon produced two of the first three goals of the second half, beginning with King finishing an assist from junior Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall). Rotondo followed with an unassisted tally to pull the Lady Knights within 16-6.
  • IUP countered with consecutive goals, before Rotondo completed Gannon's scoring with another free-position goal at the 3:37 mark.
  • The Crimson Hawks ended the scoring with two goals during the final 92 seconds, including one as time expired to account for the 20-7 final score.

  • Indiana (Pa.) generated advantages in shots (36-21), ground balls (24-21), draw controls (19-9) and fewest turnovers (19-20).
  • The Lady Knights committed 16 fouls compared to the Crimson Hawks' 23.
  • Gannon converted 4-of-8 free-position attempts while IUP went 0-of-3.
  • Rotondo led the Gannon offensive unit with three goals, a career-high four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
