GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kutztown dented the scoreboard first, but Gannon responded with a pair of free-position goals from sophomore Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan).
  • After the Golden Bears generated the tying score, the Lady Knights ripped off three consecutive goals to assume a 5-2 lead midway through the first half.
  • Junior Micaela Capozzo (Medford, Mass./Pinkerton Academy) ignited the rally by firing back-to-back shots into the back of the net, before junior Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) scored off an assist from sophomore Brianna Murosky (Erie, Pa./McDowell).
  • Two teams split the next two goals with junior Kat Martinelli (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) scoring unassisted at the 6:49 mark, putting the Gannon lead at 6-3.
  • Kutztown caught fire at that point. The Golden Bears ended the first half with four straight goals to grab a 7-6 halftime advantage.
  • The run continued with the first two scores of the second half, extending the run to six and lead to 9-6.
  • Gannon tried to rally with two of the next three goals. Capozzo netted her third of the match off an assist from freshman Jayme Kostial (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) and Shields scored unassisted during that time span, bringing the Lady Knights within 10-8.
  • However, Kutztown was able to shut out Gannon the rest of the way while scoring four goals of its own to secure a 14-8 victory.

  • Kutztown generated advantages in shots (32-22), ground balls (23-20), draw controls (14-9) and fewest turnovers (18-22).
