THE RUNDOWN
  • Final Score: Gannon 15, at Edinboro 2

  • The Short Story: The Gannon women's lacrosse team scored the first seven goals and never took its foot off the pedal en route to a 15-2 victory against Edinboro Wednesday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium. Senior Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) and sophomore Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) scored five goals each during the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon needed only 30 seconds to get the ball rolling. Rotondo won the opening draw control, before King scored the first goal of the match.
  • It was the start of seven consecutive scores. King recorded a hat trick during the opening six minutes and 24 seconds. Rotondo found the back of the net twice during the opening blitz, including her second that gave the Lady Knights a 7-0 lead nine minutes and 40 seconds into the contest.
  • Gannon scored on its first three attempts and out-shot Edinboro 11-1 during the 7-0 run.
  • Edinboro finally got on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal 12 minutes and 17 seconds into the contest.
  • Gannon responded with the final three scores of the half to create a commanding 10-1 lead at the intermission.
  • Following scores from juniors Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) and Caroline Mauck (Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville), Rotondo scored her third goal a split second before the first-half horn.
  • Gannon opened the second half with three more scores. Rotondo, Bower and King were responsible for the goals to give the Lady Knights a 13-1 advantage four minutes and 47 seconds into the final stanza.
  • Edinboro produced its second goal midway through the second half, before King and Rotondo added two more scores to account for the final 15-2 score.

GAME NOTES
  • Wednesday's contest was played under cloudy skies and temperatures in the 40's.  
  • Gannon generated advantages in shots (32-18), fewest fouls (17-30) and draw controls (12-6).
  • Edinboro countered with better numbers in ground balls (18-16) and fewest turnovers (15-18). 
  • Rotondo and King led Gannon in the scoring column with five goals each.
  • King also recorded three assists, nine draw controls and four ground balls.
  • Rotondo added three draw controls and two assists.
  • Bower and Mauck contributed two goals apiece.
  • Junior Micaela Capozzo (Medford, Mass./Pinkerton Academy) added the remaining score of Gannon's 15-goal outburst to go along with four ground balls.
  • Freshman Erin Renwick (Islip, N.Y./Islip) recorded 12 saves while playing all 60 minutes in goal, including eight during the second half. She also secured a season-high four ground balls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon played on the road for the fourth time during the season's first five matches.
  • Rotondo has scored at least three goals during all five matches this season, increasing her total of career hat tricks to six.
  • King produced her fourth hat trick in five matches this season, pushing her career total to 23.
  • Rotondo tied her career-high in goals while setting new career-highs in assists and points.
  • Renwick reached double digits in saves for the fourth consecutive match.
  • Capozzo had at least four ground balls in a match for the third time this season.
  • Gannon improved to 10-1 all-time against Edinboro, including a 4-1 mark at Sox Harrison Stadium.
  • Edinboro's two goals, zero assists and two points were the fewest by a Gannon opponent since Tiffin matched those numbers during a 21-2 loss at McConnell Family Stadium on April 26, 2012.
  • The 13-goal difference represented the Lady Knights' largest Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory since a 22-7 decision at Millersville on April 20, 2012.
  • King jumped over Shannon Pagano (2004-07) and moved into a three-way tie for 11th place on Gannon's all-time scoring list with 232 career points. She tied Lauren Bevington (2002-05) and Carrie DiBasio (2000-03).
