Gannon Women's Basketball Snaps Win-Streak with Defeat at No. 13-Ranked IUP, 60-45

  • The Short Story: The Gannon Lady Knights hung with the No. 13-ranked Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks until a four-point third quarter by the Lady Knights allowed IUP to pull ahead and take a 60-45 victory. Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) paced Gannon with 16 points and nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Indiana (Pa.) jumped out to an 13-6 advantage in the opening eight minutes before free throws from Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) and Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) had the Lady Knights back to within 13-9 in the final minute of the first quarter.
  • Down 15-9, the Lady Knights went on a 10-0 march that was capped off by a Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) three. Gannon led, 19-15, at the 6:21 mark of the second quarter.
  • Carolyn Appleby responded for IUP. She drained a three and Megan Smith followed with a layup to get a 20-19 lead back in the favor of the Crimson Hawks.
  • The two teams traded baskets as halftime hit, Indiana (Pa.) leading, 31-30.
  • IUP started the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 39-30 advantage.
  • Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) snapped the streak with a pair of free throws at the 4:55 mark of the quarter.
  • The Lady Knights went to the fourth quarter down 11, 45-34.
  • Gannon was still hanging around after Rourke made a pair of free throws with 5:55 remaining in the game. Gannon trailed by just 10, 48-38.
  • Indiana (Pa.) followed with 11-4 run over the next four minutes to seal the victory.
  • Gannon fell to the No. 13-ranked Crimson Hawks, 60-45.
  
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon's shot 15-of-42 from the field (.357) while IUP went 23-of-47 from the court (.489).
  • The Lady Knights went 11-of-16 from the free throw line (.682). Gannon leads the PSAC this season at .795.
  • IUP led the rebounding battle, 29-23.
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Indiana (Pa.) was ranked No. 13 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II rankings.
  • The loss snapped Gannon's six-game win streak.
  • Rourke posted her 17th double-digit scoring performance in 22 games this season. She's averaging 11.9 points as a sophomore.
  • Gannon fell to just 5-14 all-time on the road against IUP. The Lady Knights are 10-8 at home in the series.
