HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Lake Erie jumped on the board first with a run in the first inning. Allyson Hajnosz hit a ball that was misplayed, also allowing Payton Brownlee to run home. The Storm led 1-0 after the first half inning.
  • Gannon responded in the third inning. Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) and Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) occupied the base paths as Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) stepped to the plate and laced a double to center field. Smith and Szajn both scored on the play as Gannon took a 2-1 lead.
  • Lake Erie mounted a comeback in the seventh inning. Brownlee began the inning with a single. Rizzo followed with a bunt-single before Brownlee delivered an RBI single to tie the game at two.
  • The Storm still had runners on the corners with no outs as Hajnosz stepped to the plate. She grounded the ball to third base and a throw to first was made for the out. Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) caught the ball at first base but was run over by the runner coming up the line. Lake Erie scored Rizzo from third base but she was called back due to an obstruction call on the play.
  • Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) followed with back-to-back ground ball outs from Lake Erie to keep the game tied at two.
  • The Lady Knights went to the bottom of the seventh inning where Perich finished off the game with her walk-off heroics.
  • Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) got on base to lead off the inning and was bunted over to second by Jackie Vizza (DuBois, Pa./DuBois). Perich came to the plate and hit a rocket shot that allowed Wilp to scamper home, representing the winning run.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Six Lady Knights recorded hits, including two from Perich.
  • Both Perich hits were for extra bases. Szajn also recorded an extra-base hit.
  • Beining picked up the pitching victory after tossing three innings of five-hit, one-run ball in relief.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The last four games between Lake Erie and Gannon have been decided by one run, dating back to last season.
  • Gannon's three doubles were a season-high.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Davenport got on the board first with three runs in the third inning.
  • Next half inning, Gannon began to chip away at the lead. Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) singled with the bases loaded, scoring Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep).
  • Wilp kept the train moving with a single to center that plated Kr. DeMatteis and Nicole Bush (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic). Gannon tied it up at three.
  • With only one out, Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) brang home the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly. Wilp scored on the play and Gannon took a 4-3 lead to the bottom of the fourth.
  • Davenport responded right away, however. The Panthers posted another three-spot in the bottom of the fourth and took a 6-4 lead.
  • Gannon wasn't able to mount a comeback after that, falling, 6-4.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
