KEY SEQUENCE
  • In an up-and-down affair, Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) drilled three-pointers at 2:48 and 2:10 in the third quarter, extending the Gannon lead to 54-47 and forcing a Mansfield timeout as part of a 12-0 run to conclude the third quarter. Both players ended the game with double figures in scoring, while McKinney enjoyed a new single game career-high with 14 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) scored eight quick points in the first four minutes of the opening quarter, but her second personal foul at 5:40 limited her playing time for the rest of the quarter and into the remainder of the first half.
  • Elise Torrence (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) picked up right where LaCava left off in relief, scoring her first bucket of the afternoon with 4:19 left in the first quarter to tie the score at 13. Both teams began to cool off offensively, with several turnovers stifling potential offensive chances over the next couple of minutes in the first. Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) worked off a screen and carved inside for a layup on the right block at the 1:18 mark in the first quarter, cutting the Gannon deficit to just two at 19-17.
  • Scoring was a little tougher to come by to start the second quarter, but a couple of layups from Torrence at 6:16 and 6:03 brought the Gannon deficit to one at 25-24. As the teams continued to trade scores in rapid fire fashion, McKinney received a kick-out pass from Ivana Twumasi (Jane and Finch, Ontario/Central Tech) and buried a three as Gannon trailed by one (34-33).
  • A foul shot from Rourke tied the game and LaCava handed the Lady Knights a 36-34 lead with 1:47 left in the first half. A fastbreak layup by LaCava put the Lady Knights up 40-36 at the half.
  • Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) surged ahead for a layup to swing the momentum back to Gannon in the third quarter and the late barrage of three's from Rourke and McKinney helped Gannon take a 11-point lead, 58-47, at the end of the third. The Lady Knights ended the quarter on a 12-0 scoring run to set them up in a good spot heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Rourke and McKinney continued their sharpshooting in the fourth quarter, combining for the first three baskets of the frame, all coming behind the arc for a 20-point edge at 67-47.
  • Gannon would not surrender a lead of less than 15 points for the remainder of the matchup, holding a Mansfield squad that has some proven offensive firepower in check.

GAME NOTES
  • Powered by great efficiency from its frontcourt, Gannon scored 40 points in the first half. The Lady Knights were coming off a season-low 41 points against Bloomsburg on Saturday.
  • Torrence and McKinney each posted career-highs in scoring, part of four Lady Knights to finish the crossover matchup in double figures. The duo helped Gannon roll up 41 bench points compared to just 10 for the Mounties.
  • The Lady Knights finished 7-of-12 (58.3%) from beyond the arc in the second half and owned the offensive glass with a 17-8 advantage in offensive rebounds.
  • Gannon extends its all-time series lead to 9-1 against Mansfield.

UP NEXT
  • With a chaotic travel schedule over the past number of games, the Lady Knights will have a chance to return home and rest up, with their next action coming in six days against Lock Haven.
  • The conference game is set for Saturday, December 8 at 1:00 p.m. from the Hammermill Center.
  • Live video, live stats and live audio will be available for the conference game.
