GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • Gannon flipped a halftime deficit, pulled ahead with two minutes to play, and tied it up on a free throw with 30 seconds left, but Kutztown's Anthony Lee took all that time off the clock and hit a dagger of a 3-pointer with one tick left to hand the Golden Knights a heartbreaking defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon got off to a hot start, converting on five of their first six shots from the floor, with Fernando Salsamendi (Curitiba-Parana, Brazil/Circulo Militar do Parana) nailing a 3-pointer and Matt Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) converting a three-point play to make it 12-7 just over three minutes in. The pace slowed down from there, allowing the Golden Bears to chip away and take a 17-16 lead with 8:02 left in the period.
  • Cyril Ogbuagu (Lagos, Nigeria/Riverdale Baptist (Md.)) hit a free throw to tie it at 17, but the Golden Bears managed a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to open it up to 27-19 at the final media timeout. The guests went up by nine on a 3-pointer inside of a minute to go, but Joe Fustine (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) got a shot off the glass to go before the buzzer to make it 32-25 at the break.
  • Kutztown managed to extend its lead to 10 early in the second half, but Gannon immediately started chipping away. Salsamendi hit a pair of free throws, followed by a trey out of Jovante Lee (Dothan, Ala./Northview) to quickly cut it to five at 39-34. Kutztown pushed it back out to eight, but Jonathan Harewood (Baldwin, N.Y./St. Anthony's) buried another from deep off a Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) steal to make it 42-37 with 11:14 to play.
  • Ogbuagu got it back to one possession for the first time with two free throws 30 seconds later, and a 3-pointer from Daryl Porter (Southfield, Mich./Walled Lake Western) got it back to three another time with 5:47 to play. Ogbuagu drew Gannon to within two with a layup with three minutes left, and Johnson got a steal and was later fouled, getting the chance to tie it up at 51-all with two free throws.
  • Ogbuagu took advantage of another Kutztown turnover with 2:00 to go, hitting two freebies to give the Knights their first lead in over 27 minutes of game action. Lee hit a trey for the Golden Bears to give them the lead on the next possession, but DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) converted from the line to flip Gannon back in front. Ogbuagu hit one more from the charity stripe to tie it up one more time at 56-56, but Lee worked his magic once again, and a last-ditch heave from Gannon skipped off the backboard.

GAME NOTES
  • Ogbuagu closed his 2018 with his first double-double, leading Gannon with 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting and 6-of-9 from the line to go with 11 rebounds. It's the second straight night the sophomore recorded 11 boards.
  • It was also a career high for Ogbuagu in points while playing a career-high 34 minutes.
  • Johnson set a new career mark with 10 points, going 5-of-7 at the line, and matched a career high with eight assists to go with three steals.
  • Daniel Sapp (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro) saw the most extensive action of his career, and responded with seven rebounds and three points in 24 minutes.
