KEY SEQUENCE
  • An early lead and a solid close to the first half had the Golden Knights in decent position at the break and, despite a mini run from the Raiders, were down just seven with 13:45 to play. From there though, the guests found another level, going on a 12-0 run, including three 3-pointers, in just over three minutes to jump ahead 57-38 and take control.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Daryl Porter (Southfield, Mich./Walled Lake Western) picked up baskets on two of Gannon's first three possessions of the night to lift the hosts to a 4-0 lead two minutes in. Ship answered with a 3-pointer, but a Frank Webb Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) jumper, followed by another from Porter, made it 8-5. Kofi Mills (London, England/Martin Van Buren (N.Y.)) sank a jumper of his own to push the lead back out to three at 10-7, but the Raiders tied it up for the first time at 10-10 with 14:02 on the clock.
  • That was the first of 10 straight points that opened up a seven-point lead for Ship, and the guests turned that into a 10-point and then 12-point lead by the 3:41 mark of the first half, but the Golden Knights closed the half on a strong note. A basket from Jovante Lee (Dothan, Ala./Northview) and free throws from Webb preceded a three-point play out of Cyril Ogbuagu (Lagos, Nigeria/Riverdale Baptist (Md.)) to allow Gannon to score the final seven points of the half and cut it to 31-26 at the break.
  • The Raiders opened the second half on a 7-2 run to appear to pull away, but The Knights got a layup from DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)), and the junior sank both free throws after he was fouled pulling in an offensive rebound to quickly cut it back to a 43-36 game. Unfortunately, that was when Ship got hot from outside the arc, turning that into a 19-point lead with 9:06 to play.
  • That lead got as large as 24 inside of five minutes to play, but baskets from Kofi Mills (London, England/Martin Van Buren (N.Y.)), Webb and Ogbuagu sliced it to 14 by the final horn.

GAME NOTES
  • The Raiders, who snapped a two-game losing streak, are ranked No. 25 in the latest NABC coaches poll.
  • Gannon won the rebounding battle for the eighth time in 10 games, out-boarding Ship 38-31. The Raiders had only lost the rebounding battle twice in their first eight-games, and averaged 40.9 per game.
  • Porter and Cisero each netted 14 points to lead Gannon. Porter did so on a tidy 6-of-8 shooting, while Cisero was 6-of-11 and added five rebounds.
  • Webb scored in double digits for the second straight game, closing with 13 points to go along with a stuffed stat sheet of five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
  • Ogbuagu pulled in a game-high 11 rebounds, including five offensive boards. It was the first time he pulled in double-digit rebounds since grabbing 12 against Fayetteville State Nov. 23.
  • Ship was the first team this season to shoot 40 percent or better from 3-point range against Gannon. The Raiders were 12-of-30 (40.0 percent), including 9-of-19 (47.4 percent) in the second half.

  • Gannon closes out the 2018 calendar year in the second night of a back-to-back, hosting Kutztown on Wednesday
  • The 7:30 p.m. tip from the Hammermill Center will feature live video, live stats and live audio.
  • The Golden Knights hold a 13-4 lead in the all-time series against the Golden Bears, who have won three straight in the series.
  • The 6-5 Bears fell to Mercyhurst Tuesday afternoon to start their road trip, dropping a 110-80 shootout against the Lakers.
