HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon came out of the gates firing with a quick 7-0 lead in the first set before expanding its lead to 10-1. The Lady Knights collected kills from Smith, Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) and Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) in the opening flurry. The Fighting Scots responded with an 8-2 run of their own to whittle the Gannon lead to 12-9. Edinboro eventually overcame its slow start and took an 18-17 lead in the first set.
  • Trailing 21-19, head coach Matt Darling used a timeout. His team responded by scoring the next three points, courtesy of two Edinboro attack errors and a service ace from Valeria Torres (Gurabo, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame), to give Gannon a 22-21 first set lead. The Lady Knights posted the final three points of the first set, with kills from Kerestes and Smith and an ace from Lydia Lukomski (Portville, N.Y./Portville Central) for an extended 26-24 first set victory.
  • The teams exchanged points for the early portions of the second set. Gannon eventually rattled off a 5-0 scoring run for a 17-14 lead that prompted an Edinboro timeout. Toni Leitshuh (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central), Smith and Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) each smacked kills in the Gannon scoring run.
  • The Fighting Scots once again rallied late in the set, cutting the Gannon lead to 22-21, but the Lady Knights would not be denied with three of the final four points for a 25-22 set two victory. McClung posted the final two kills of the set for Gannon.
  • The Lady Knights charged ahead 5-2 in the match-clinching third set. Leitshuh and Smith each put down a pair of kills and Beyers delivered a service ace for the Lady Knights early on in the final set. After trading points midway through the set, Gannon surged ahead with a 9-1 run for a 23-14 lead.
  • Aubree Lanman (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) capped the match with a kill for the 25-18 set three victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon picked up a 3-1 home win over the Fighting Scots earlier this season on October 12 at the Hammermill Center. The Lady Knights now boast a 34-27 all-time lead in the series with Edinboro.
  • Smith has put down 10 or more kills in three straight matches. She has also notched a double-double in the last three matches adding 10+ digs in each of those contests.
  • Leitshuh, who has primarily served as the libero this season, smacked a season-high 12 kills. She has posted 10+ digs in all but four matches she has appeared in this season.
  • The final 2018 PSAC Volleyball Championship field of eight is set following the conclusion of regular season play on Saturday with Gannon notching the top overall seed. Shippensburg earned the two seed with Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown collecting the three and four seeds, respectively.
  • California (Pa.) is the five seed in the conference tournament, while Clarion, Millersville and East Stroudsburg round out the field in the six through eight spots.
  • Gannon clinched the top overall seed in the tournament with a 3-1 road win at Slippery Rock last night.
  • Gannon has mowed through the second half of the regular season with 17 consecutive wins. It's the Lady Knights longest winning streak since the 2016 season when the team won 14 matches in a row.
  • The Lady Knights have lost just seven total sets during their winning streak.
