KEY SEQUENCE
  • In a tough spot with Bowie State holding a 14-point advantage with under nine minutes to play, Gannon reeled off nine straight points to quickly make it a game again by the final media timeout. The visitors collected themselves though, as Rinardo Perry hit two free throws, followed by a dagger of a 3-pointer from David Belle to balloon it back to a 10-point game and allow the Bulldogs to escape with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A somewhat high-paced start to the game helped the Bulldogs open up a 6-2 lead in the first two minutes, and the guests turned that into a 10-4 advantage less than two minutes later. From there though, DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) converted on four straight field goal attempts to quickly get the Golden Knights back into the game at 14-12 near the midway mark of the half.
  • Bowie State stretched its lead once again as the clock ticked under 10 minutes to go in the period, and a put-back dunk from the Bulldogs' Saiquan Jamison suddenly made it a 24-15 game with 4:33 on the clock.
  • A fastbreak after a Kevin Dodds (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) steal got the offense moving a little bit, resulting in the first of two Daryl Porter (Southfield, Mich./Walled Lake Western) buckets. Two free throws from Cisero cut the lead to four, and a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Eric Gonzalez (Sabadell, Spain/Bachillerato) sliced the lead to 30-25 at the break.
  • Dodds opened the scoring in the second half with his layup that made it 30-27 and capped a nice stretch for Gannon, but Bowie State responded with its most efficient stretch of the night, going on a 17-6 run from there that saw the Bulldogs push their lead to 14 at 47-33 with 10:24 to play.
  • The two sides traded baskets, keeping it at a 14-point lead for the guests at 49-35. Freshman Jonathan Harewood (Baldwin, N.Y./St. Anthony's) hit his second straight bucket to start the run, then nailed a 3-pointer as the clock ticked under seven minutes to play.
  • Two free throws from Kofi Mills (London, England/Martin Van Buren (N.Y.)) after an offensive rebound and a layup out of Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) suddenly had the Knights feeling some momentum, and they had the ball with a chance to make it a one-possession game, but Bowie State wouldn't allow it, going on its own run to seal it.

GAME NOTES
  • Daryl Porter (Southfield, Mich./Walled Lake Western) set a new career high with 12 points, and his six made field goals topped his own personal best as well. The senior added a rebound and two steals.
  • DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) also turned in the best night of his young Gannon career. The junior contributed 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting and a team-high seven rebounds.  The points set a new Gannon career best in his fifth game, as did three made free throws, while rebounds and field goals made match outputs from opening weekend.
  • Another newcomer, freshman Harewood, matched his career high with eight points.
  • The Golden Knights dip below .500 for the first time this season, and the first time since falling to 4-5 overall on Dec. 3 of last season. The team responded to that by ripping off nine straight wins on its way to an NCAA tournament berth in 2017-18.
  • Bowie State now owns a three-game winning streak, and seems to have found its stride after opening the season 0-5.
