GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • A pair of late three-pointers from Daemen's Jordan Heinold and Autumn Buchsenschutz highlighted an 11-0 run to close the game, with the second three proving to be the game-clincher for the Wildcats, in a 58-52 defeat of Gannon on Wednesday night at the Hammermill Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Following a 6-0 run to start the game from the visitors, Gannon got on the board with a layup from Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) at 7:51 in the first. That basket kickstarted a strong opening quarter for LaCava, who tallied eight points in the first 10 minutes of the contest.
  • Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) ties the game at eight following a steal and fastbreak layup and a layup from LaCava handed Gannon a 10-8 edge over the Wildcats with 4:40 left in the first quarter. Elise Torrence (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) began her strong evening off the bench with a layup at 2:26 in the first, pushing the Gannon lead to 15-13.
  • Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) connected from long range with just over one minute left in the opening frame to propel Gannon ahead 18-16. A jumper from Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) at 7:02 in the second quarter stretched the Gannon advantage to four at 24-20 and a jumper from Torrence kept Gannon in front with about five minutes remaining in the first half.
  • A layup for Daemen's Katie Titus put the Wildcats ahead by three (33-30) with just six seconds left in the first half, but Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) responded for the Lady Knights with a jumper from about five feet out as the buzzer sounded to end the first half as Gannon trailed 33-32.
  • The Lady Knights struggled offensively in the third quarter and the visitors capitalized with an 11-2 run that spanned just over five minutes. The scoring surged pushed Daemen ahead 44-34 before Rourke knocked down a three with 2:53 showing on the third quarter clock. Torrence cut the Gannon deficit to six with a layup and a pair of free throws from Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) brought the Lady Knights to within four (47-43) with just over one minute left in the third.
  • LaCava converted a three-point play in the fourth quarter as Gannon trailed by just one, and a jumper from Mitchell pushed Gannon ahead 48-47 with 7:24 left in the contest. Obenrader took a pass from classmate Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) and dialed up a three with 4:06 left to push the Gannon lead to 52-47.
  • Both teams came up empty on the next six possessions following the Obenrader three and Daemen surged ahead late with its 11-0 run to close the contest.

GAME NOTES
  • The win for Daemen marked its first win in the series since the 2004-05 season, and their first at Gannon's Hammermill Center since the 1996-97 season. The victory also snapped a two-game skid for the Wildcats.
  • Turnovers and self-inflicted miscues continue to plague a young Lady Knights team in the early portions of the season. With 20 turnovers against Daemen, Gannon has recorded 20 or more turnovers in four of six games this year.
  • LaCava dropped in a team-high 13 points, marking the fifth time she has scored in double figures this season.
  • Obenrader picked up her second career double-double, carding nearly an identical stat line as her first double-double in her collegiate debut. She finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.
  • Mitchell had a strong all-around effort for the Lady Knights with seven points, four rebounds and a game-high five assists.
  • Torrence matched her career-high scoring output with six points tonight. She had previously scored six points against Pitt-Johnstown on January 27, 2018.
  • Gannon finished 18-for-55 (32.7%) from the floor and 3-for-18 (16.7%) from beyond the arc.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon returns to the floor this weekend for a pair of road games to begin PSAC play. The Lady Knights start their trip against Bloomsburg on Saturday, December 1 at 1:00 PM.
  • Live video, live stats and live audio will be available from Nelson Field House.
