KEY SEQUENCE
  • Tampa held a decisive edge in the rebounding margin (39-26) and poured in 30 points in the paint as the Spartans led from start to finish in a 63-45 triumph over the Gannon Lady Knights on Thanksgiving night in Alaska. Gannon had three players finish the game with eight points, but was held without a player scoring in double figures for the first time in 2018-19.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter was tightly contested, with neither squad able to expand their lead beyond four points. Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) put the Lady Knights on the board with a three-pointer at the 8:17 mark, cutting the Tampa lead to 4-3 in the early going. Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) worked inside for a layup, scoring the Lady Knights next basket about three minutes later in the opening frame.
  • Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) knocked down a shot from beyond the arc with less than one minute left in the first quarter as Gannon countered back for a 9-8 lead. The Spartans opened the second quarter with a quick 7-2 run to regain the lead, 20-11. Tampa opened up a double-digit advantage about midway through the second quarter, but an Obenrader three at 3:09 trimmed the edge to 27-22. The Lady Knights would not get any closer in the first half as the Spartans took a 35-27 lead into the locker room.
  • Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) started the second half strong with a three-pointer just 11 seconds into the third quarter as Gannon trailed by just five at 35-30. Once again, Tampa was able to maintain the lead, eventually expanding its edge to double digits once again. Staja Tyghter pushed the Spartans lead to 15 following a jumper with just over one minute remaining in the third quarter.
  • Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) opened the fourth quarter with the Lady Knights first basket, which came nearly two minutes and thirty seconds into the quarter. The Spartans continued to maintain a comfortable lead, ultimately expanding its edge to 17 points on two different occasions in the fourth quarter.
