KEY SEQUENCE
  • Nine of ten Lady Knights scored at least one basket in a contest that Gannon led from start to finish. The Lady Knights stormed ahead with a 19-11 first quarter and maintained the edge in the second half behind an 8-for-11 (72.7%) performance at the foul line.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) got things started with a three just over 30 seconds into the game, but neither team could gain much traction on the offensive end early on. Rourke also provided the next basket of the quarter about three minutes later off a steal and score layup.
  • Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) worked her way inside for a layup, drawing a foul in the process, before eventually converting a three-point play to give Gannon a 14-6 lead with 2:13 remaining in the first. Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) lined up a three-pointer just over one minute later to push the Gannon lead to 18-9.
  • Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) corralled an offensive rebound and finished to give Gannon a 21-14 lead with 8:13 showing on the second quarter clock. Aiora Rivas (Ibiza, Spain/IES CTEIB) gave Gannon two more points with an acrobatic finish in the paint, extending the Gannon lead to 25-17 in the first half.
  • Rourke scored the final basket of the half for Gannon with 14 seconds left but the Golden Bulls countered back with a layup from Elise Levenberry with four seconds remaining. The Golden Knights held a 32-29 edge at the intermission.
  • Rourke opened the second half with a quick layup just 13 seconds into the third quarter and Gannon continued to push the pace with a layup from LaCava to push the Lady Knights lead to 40-31. Boston Mitchell buried a three-pointer off a kick-out pass from Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) as Gannon surged ahead 45-34.
  • Obenrader kept the Lady Knights ahead comfortably with a layup at 1:38 in the third before Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) stretched the Gannon lead to 15 (50-35) with a third quarter foul shot.
  • McKinney lined up a fast-break three-pointer in the fourth quarter at the 7:21 mark to make it 56-40 and the Lady Knights kept up the pressure with another three with 3:29 remaining.
  • Gannon continued to use foul shots to keep its lead near 10 or more for the remainder of the contest.
