GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • Following a chaotic conclusion to regulation, which saw each team with several chances to take control down the stretch, Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) played the role of hero for the Lady Knights with a layup as time expired in the overtime frame. Gannon trailed by two (89-87) with just 1:12 left in OT and Obenrader, who poured in 10 points, tied the game at 89 before eventually netting the game-winner.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) got Gannon on the board with a three at 7:51 in the first quarter before handing Gannon a 9-7 lead with a layup at 5:38 in the opening quarter. Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) ended the scoring in the first quarter with an athletic lay-in with just 18 seconds left to cut the ECSU lead to 24-21.
  • The Lady Knights opened the second quarter with a 6-1 run to take a 25-24 lead. Chelsea Rouke scored the first two buckets of the quarter for Gannon and Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) capped the run with a layup at 8:39.
  • Gannon took control to end the half, using a 12-3 scoring run for a 47-38 lead. Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering), Obenrader, Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North), Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) and Rourke all scored in the run to close the half as the Lady Knights showcased their balance on offense.
  • Pirosko handed the Lady Knights a nine-point advantage with a layup in the 2:51 left in the third period before scoring again with 1:03 left in the frame.
  • Gannon maintained a lead throughout much of the fourth quarter, but ECSU would not go quietly. The Vikings tied the game at 79 with just 10 seconds remaining in regulation and took a two-point lead (81-79) on a layup from Asia Deal with seven ticks left in the fourth quarter. The Lady Knights wasted little time to tie things back up at 81 out of their timeout as LaCava took a pass from McKinney and scored with six seconds remaining.
  • Each team traded scores throughout the overtime session before Obenrader came up clutch with the final two baskets, including the game-winner as time expired.
