Thornton Scores Again as Gannon Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Seton Hill, 2-0

  • The Short Story – Gannon men's soccer scored a goal in each half and won its seventh consecutive match to remain perfect in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play following a 2-0 road win against Seton Hill on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon rattled off three shots in the first three minutes of the match.
  • The Golden Knights continued applying the offensive pressure as sophomore Sam Thornton (Rotherham, England/Wickersley School and Sports College) hit the crossbar at 23:43.
  • Sophomore forward Alex Lee Yaw (Jamestown, N.Y./Mercyhurst Prep) had a header attempt blocked at 37:57.
  • The Golden Knights broke through with their first goal at 40:48 in the first half. Thornton took a pass from redshirt-sophomore Austin Ludwik (Gold Coast, Australia/The Southport School) and beat Seton Hill goalkeeper Austin Iddon for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Golden Knights doubled their lead with a goal at 79:40 in the second half. Freshman Joe Knox (Gold Coast, Australia/The Southport School) tallied his second goal of the 2018 season on a wide open net off a pass from Thornton.
  • The Golden Knights defense held steady as Seton Hill was unable to generate another scoring chance for the remainder of the match.

  • Thornton scored his ninth goal of the season for Gannon, ranking him second in the conference and just one goal behind Shippensburg's Cole Kropnik.
  • Thornton has recorded at least one goal in four straight matches.
  • Gannon held a 14-11 edge in shots and a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Lee Yaw and Thornton led the Golden knights with five shots each.
