Gannon Women's Soccer Team Comes Up Short Against IUP, 2-1

THE RUNDOWN
  • Final Score: Indiana (Pa.) 2, Gannon 1

  • The Short Story: Despite holding a 20-6 lead in shots, the Gannon women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to Indiana (Pa.) Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) scored her eighth goal of the season in the 34th minute to give the Lady Knights a 1-0 lead.
  • Mahogany Willis tied it up less than three minutes later on a pass from Kallie Conte.
  • Coming back from halftime, Conte recorded her fourth goal of the year in the 54th minute on a long pass from Willis. That goal ended up being the game-winner.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon held a 20-6 shot advantage over IUP.
  • The Lady Knights also had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
  • IUP committed more fouls than Gannon, 10-5.
  • Lewis, Megan McCartney (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) and Kayla Bevacqua (Welland, Ontario/Notre Dame) evenly split 15 of Gannon's shots.
  • Hannah Hays (Butler, Pa./Butler) also registered two shots in the loss.
  • Hannah Pufpaff (Buffalo, N.Y./Saint Mary's) was tagged with the loss as she made one save in goal.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The loss to IUP mathematically shuts the door on the Lady Knights' eighth consecutive PSAC Tournament appearance. The eight-team field for the tournament is officially set as Bloomsburg, Kutztown, Millersville, Lock Haven, Seton Hill, East Stroudsburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester earned playoff berths. Gannon made seven straight PSAC Tournament appearances from 2011-2017.
  • With her eighth goal of the season, Lewis brings her career-total to 33, which ranks fourth in Gannon history. The junior has accumulated 21 points this season, bringing her career-total to 82, which tabs her at fourth in the Gannon record books. Lewis' 15 career assists also ranks sixth in program history.
