Gannon Men's Soccer Picks Up 2-1 Triumph Over Ashland

  • The Short Story: The Gannon men's soccer team handed Ashland a 2-1 loss Tuesday evening in the final nonconference matchup of the 2018 schedule. Gannon took a quick 1-0 lead in the first half and eventually netted the game-winner in the second half to secure the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Austin Ludwik (Gold Coast, Australia/The Southport School) tallied his first goal of the season in the 35th minute when he buried a header near the right post on a corner kick from Ivan Manfredi (Chiavari, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Marconi Delpino).
  • Gannon continued to dictate the pace of play in the first half, with a 15-4 edge in first half shots.
  • Andrew Pearson tied it up for the Eagles in the 59th minute on a pass from Tomas Cordeiro.
  • In the 77th minute, Sam Thornton (Rotherham, England/Wickersley School and Sports College) scored the game-winner for the Golden Knights on a pass from Alex Lee Yaw (Jamestown, N.Y./Mercyhurst Prep). It was Thornton's 11th goal and sixth game-winner of the season.

  • Ludwik and Thornton recorded goals for Gannon.
  • Manfredi and Lee Yaw registered assists in the win.
