Gannon Men’s Soccer Draws With LHU Saturday

THE RUNDOWN
  • Final Score: Gannon 1, Lock Haven 1 (2OT)

  • The Short Story – 110 minutes of action was not enough for Gannon and Lock Haven, who played to a 1-1 tie following two second half goals on Saturday afternoon. The game was Gannon's  first of the season that went beyond regulation,

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Joe Knox (Gold Coast, Australia/The Southport School) had an early scoring chance at 37:28 in the first half that sailed wide of the cage.
  • Alex Lee Yaw (Jamestown, N.Y./Mercyhurst Prep) ripped a shot high about five minutes later.
  • Lock Haven registered a few first half scoring chances, but was unable to put the ball on net.
  • The Bald Eagles broke the scoreless tie on a Beckham Sibiski goal at 24:36 in the second half.
  • Gannon countered quickly with a goal from Lee Yaw, just over one minute later, to tie the score at one. Lee Yaw collected a pass from Sam Thornton (Rotherham, England/Wickersley School and Sports College) to the middle of the field and buried a shot to the far post for his fifth goal of the season.
  • Lee Yaw had a scoring chance denied by Lock Haven goalie Jason Keller at 18:39 in the second half.
  • Gannon had two more scoring chances miss the net as the teams went into overtime.
  • Thornton had a shot blocked at 6:06 in the first overtime frame.
  • Gannon fired two more chances late in the second overtime but could not break through Keller and the LHU defense.

  • Gannon held a 17-14 edge in shots over Lock Haven.
  • The Golden Knights put seven shots on goal.
  • Thornton recorded a game-high six shots for Gannon while Lee Yaw had five shots.
  • Austin Ludwik (Gold Coast, Australia/The Southport School) attempted three shots for Gannon.  
  • Hedi Mehnaoui (Paris, France/Lycee Chevrollier) made two saves in goal.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Saturday's game was the first the first of the season to go beyond regulation for Gannon.
  • Lee Yaw has scored a goal in three consecutive matches.
  • Thornton has posted at least one point in seven straight games.
  • Gannon is now 13-15-3 all-time against Lock Haven.
  • The tie drops Gannon to second place in the PSAC standings, just one point behind West Chester (10-2-3, 7-1-2 PSAC) for first place in the league.
  • West Chester defeated Slippery Rock, 1-0, earlier today to jump into first place. 
  • Five teams (West Chester, Gannon, Millersville, Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg) have clinched a berth in the PSAC Men's Soccer Tournament.
