Gannon Women's Soccer Shuts Out Mansfield, 5-0, in Third Straight Win

THE RUNDOWN

  • The Short Story: Five Lady Knights scored goals Wednesday night as the Gannon women's soccer team won its third straight game in a 5-0 shutout of Mansfield.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Just 4:30 into the game, Hannah Hays (Butler, Pa./Butler) scored her fifth goal of the season on a crossing pass from Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) in front of the goal.
  • Less than four minutes later, Megan McCartney (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) scored from 10 yards out to make it 2-0.
  • Vanessa Coccurello (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean de Brebeuf) extended Gannon's lead to 3-0 in the 63rd minute on a pass from Maddie North (Leysdown-on-Sea, England/The Westlands School).
  • Just over seven minutes later, North scored on a free kick that went over the keeper's head.
  • Molly Whaley (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) scored her first-career goal in the 72nd minute on an assist from Aesling McCullough (Moon, Pa./Our Lady of the Sacred Heart).
 
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon's five goals came from five different players: Hays, McCartney, Coccurello, North and Whaley.
  • Lewis, North and McCullough had assists in the win.
  • Gannon out-shot Mansfield, 28-10.
  • Corner kicks were even at two apiece.
  • Kennedy Solymosi (Eastlake, Ohio/Lake Catholic) got the start in goal and made four saves in 72 minutes.
