Gannon Women's Soccer Wins Second Straight in 2-1 Defeat of Mercyhurst

  • The Short Story: The Gannon women's soccer team won its second consecutive game Sunday afternoon when the Lady Knights defeated local rival Mercyhurst, 2-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon fired off four shots in the opening six minutes of the contest before Maddie North (Leysdown-on-Sea, England/The Westlands School) found the back of the net in the eighth minute.
  • In the 32nd minute, Laia Santos scored for the Lakers to knot things up at 1-1.
  • Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) scored the game-winning goal for the Lady Knights in the 57th minute.
 
GAME NOTES
  • North and Lewis recorded goals for Gannon.
  • Vanessa Coccurello (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean de Brebeuf), Kayla Bevacqua (Welland, Ontario/Notre Dame) and Lewis recorded four shots apiece.
  • Gannon out-shot Mercyhurst, 20-10.
  • Hannah Pufpaff (Buffalo, N.Y./Saint Mary's) made three saves in her fifth win of the season.
  • Mercyhurst committed more fouls, 9-7.
