  • The Short Story: Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington), Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson), Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and Lexi Johnson (Chandler, Ariz./Basha) all put down double-digit kills while Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) chipped in nine kills of her own as the 23rd-ranked Gannon women's volleyball team shook off a slow start at home in a 3-1 victory over rival Edinboro Friday night at the Hammermill Center. Gannon has won nine consecutive games and is the first team in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to reach the 20-win plateau in 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon found an offensive rhythm after a slow start, which saw Edinboro take a 1-0 match lead following a 25-19 set one victory.
  • The Lady Knights took control of the match after the first set, outscoring Edinboro 75-34 for the remainder of the match.
  • A kill from McClung followed by a pair of service aces from Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) handed Gannon a quick 3-0 lead to begin the second set.
  • Gannon extended its early lead to 8-2 in the second set.
  • Kerestes hammered a kill to push Gannon's second set lead to 17-11.
  • Gannon scored four consecutive points, highlighted by two kills from Kerestes, to expand its second set lead to 22-12.
  • Sampson capped the second set with a kill as Gannon recorded a 25-16 set victory.
  • The Lady Knights surged ahead 13-3 to open the third set.
  • Gannon scored five consecutive points for a comfortable 18-5 lead in the third set.
