Gannon Women’s Soccer Wins Fourth Straight with 2-1 win at Lock Haven

  • The Short Story: The No. 25 Gannon women's soccer team won its fourth consecutive game Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 win at Lock Haven. Sophomore Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) recorded both goals as the Lady Knights improved to 6-1-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lock Haven struck first in the 41st minute as senior Leisha Noble notched her first goal of the season and put her team up 1-0.  
  • Not long after Noble's goal, Lewis put Gannon on the scoreboard with 24 second remaining in the opening half when she beat her defender and scored from 20 yards out.
  • The teams headed into halftime tied 1-1 with Gannon holding an 8-6 shot advantage.
  • Coming back from the break, Lewis scored her fourth game-winning goal of the season in the 58th minute on a long pass in from redshirt senior Sarah Kaiser (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep).
  • Gannon held off a feisty Lock Haven team that outshot the Lady Knights 5-2 down the stretch. Senior goalkeeper Danitza Indacochea (Vaughan, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc) preserved the win with four big saves in the final 32:44 of the game.  

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon finished the game with a 15-11 shot advantage, while Lock Haven had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks
  • Fouls were even across the board, 7-7.
  • Indacochea finished the game with six saves, her career record for saves in a single game.
  • Lock Haven goalkeeper Bree Hilty made eight saves.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon is ranked No. 25 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll and No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic regional rankings.
  • With her two goals against the Lady Eagles, Lewis moves into a tie with Jamie Shadd (2003-08) and Courtney Rowan (2005-08) for 10th all-time at Gannon with her 19th career goal.
  • Lewis has registered a multi-goal performance for the third time in the last four games and the sixth time in her career.
  • Lewis recorded her eighth career game-winning goal Saturday afternoon, which moves her into a tie with Sammy Valloud (2012-15), Justine Rodrigues (2011-14) and Shadd for third place all-time at Gannon.
  • Indacochea earned her 10th career victory, which moves her to sole possession of 10th place all-time at Gannon.
  • Kaiser's assist marks her team-leading fifth of the year. She has notched one assist in the last three games.
