Lewis Leads Lady Knights to Shutout Over Shippensburg

  • The Short Story: Sophomore Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) scored a pair of goals to lead the Gannon women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout win over Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium in Erie, Pa.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lewis headed in her first goal of the game eight minutes into the match on senior Hannah Manczka (Fairview, Pa./McDowell)'s corner kick.
  • Gannon took a 1-0 lead at halftime. The Lady Knights outshot the Raiders 11-1 in the first half.
  • Lewis put Gannon up 2-0 in the 54th minute when she beat her defender on the left side and buried the ball in the upper right corner of the goal.
  • The Lady Knights outshot the Raiders 9-5 in the second half and held on for a 2-0 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon outshot Shippensburg 20-6, while holding a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Shippensburg held a 9-7 foul advantage. Neither team recorded a yellow card.
  • Lewis and redshirt senior Sarah Kaiser (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) led Gannon with three shots apiece. 11 different Lady Knights recorded shots in the game.
  • Senior goalkeeper Danitza Indacochea (Vaughan, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc) made three saves to improve to 4-1 on the season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon has not allowed a goal since September 9 against Kutztown. It was Gannon's fourth shutout this year.
  • Indacochea recorded her third shutout of the season in goal.
  • The game was Lewis' first multi-goal game since October 13, 2016 when Gannon claimed a 4-1 win against Lock Haven. It marks the fourth multi-goal game of her career.
  • Lewis now has a team-high four goals on the year.
  • Manckza now has a team-high three assists on the year.
