Gannon's Dogan Named to Second Consecutive NABC Honors Court

ERIE, Pa. - Gannon's Matthew Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court released Wednesday morning.

Gannon and Kutztown were the only two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) programs that had student-athletes recognized by the NABC.

The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts of student-athletes off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. In addition to being a junior or senior varsity student-athlete with at least one year of residency at their current school, he must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year.

Dogan is a second-time NABC Honors Court honoree with a 3.71 cumulative grade point average while majoring as a physician assistant. The senior guard has been named a PSAC Scholar-Athlete and received the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association (ADA) Academic Achievement Award every year during his collegiate career.

The West Middlesex, Pa., native was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America third team as a senior, becoming the program's first Academic All-American since Kyle Goldcamp earned second-team accolades in 2009. Dogan was one of only five student-athletes named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II first team. All selections were at-large and made regardless of position.

Athletically, Dogan was named to the All-PSAC Western Division first team and All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) honorable-mention squad in 2016-17. He averaged 17.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals through 28 games. Dogan reached double digits in scoring during 23 consecutive games from November 26-February 25 and surpassed the 20-point plateau 10 times. He became the sixth Golden Knight in school history to score 30 points in consecutive games January 6-9.

The four-year letterwinner ranked 10th among PSAC players in points per game, 10th in minutes per game (35.0), 12th in field goal percentage (47.4) and 14th in offensive rebounds per game (2.1). Dogan finished his collegiate career 44th all-time at Gannon with 836 career points.

Gannon concluded the 2016-17 campaign with an 18-10 overall record, falling to No. 5 Kutztown 91-85 in overtime during the PSAC semifinals. The Golden Knights played in the conference final four for the third time during the last four years.
