GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The match initially opened as a defensive battle with neither team able to score during the first 11 minutes and 27 seconds.
  • Walters finally broke the scoreless drought with a free-position goal that gave Gannon a 1-0 lead with 18:33 remaining in the first half.
  • Shippensburg countered with three scores in the span of one minute and 44 seconds to assume a 3-1 advantage.
  • Gannon followed with back-to-back goals from senior Tessa Mitchell (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and freshman Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) to knot the score at three with 11:42 showing on the first-half clock.
  • Both teams returned to their defensive form at that point, battling through the next 10 minutes and 29 seconds without a goal.
  • Shippensburg ended the scoreless stretch with an unassisted goal at the 1:13 mark, before Mitchell finished a pass from Walters with 16 seconds left to send the teams into the halftime break tied at four.
  • Neither team was able to produce a lead larger than one goal during the second half that featured ties at five, six, seven and eight.
  • Trailing 8-7, Mitchell created the contest's seventh tie with her fifth goal of the match at the 10:01 mark. The score came off an assist from Walters.
  • After another nine minutes without a goal, Walters was fouled and given a free-position shot. She converted the attempt which proved to be the game-winner with 59.8 seconds remaining.
  • Shippensburg won the ensuing draw control and had one last chance, but freshman goalkeeper Charla Tate (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) intercepted a pass on the right side of the net with 32 seconds to play. The Lady Knights were then able to run out the remainder of regulation.
