HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Mercyhurst jumped out to an early one-run lead in the second inning on an Cassandra Egelston single to left field that scored Meredith Grimes.
  • The Lady Knights took their first lead in the bottom of the second. Ashley Bower (Middleport, N.Y./Royalton-Hartland) knocked in Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) on a single to center.
  • Gannon was left with runners on the corners as Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) stepped to the plate. Bower stole second during the Szajn at bat. Mercyhurst's attempted throw-out at second base sailed into center field and Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) scored from third on the play. Gannon led 2-1.
  • Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) hit a lead-off home run in the third inning to extend the lead to 3-1 for Gannon.
  • Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) and Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) also produced run-scoring hits in the inning and the Lady Knights took a 6-1 lead to the fourth.
  • Mercyhurst began to claw back as the Lakers scored three in the fourth and three in the sixth. The Lakers finally drew level at seven runs apiece.
  • The tie game set up another seventh-inning thriller for the Lady Knights. Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) led off the inning being hit by the pitch and Perich sacrificed her over to second base. Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) singled Tanilli over to third and the Lady Knights had runners at the corners with one out.
  • Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) stepped to the plate and laid down a bunt and Tanilli scampered home for the walk-off victory.
