HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lock Haven scored the contest's first goal 104 seconds after the opening draw control, but Gannon then held it scoreless for the next 22 minutes and 15 seconds.
  • Meanwhile, the Lady Knights ripped off three consecutive goals. Junior Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) began the run with a pair of unassisted scores, before senior Tessa Mitchell (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) finished a pass from King for a 3-1 lead with 6:37 left in the first half.
  • Lock Haven ended its scoreless drought with 6:01 showing on the clock, but Gannon answered with another Mitchell from King scoring play with 2:48 to play in the first half. The exchange left the Lady Knights with a 4-2 lead at the intermission.
  • Lock Haven looked like it had solved Gannon's game plan after the break, scoring twice to tie the match at four with 23:30 remaining.
  • However, the Lady Knights countered once again. King scored her third unassisted goal to regain a 5-4 lead. Mitchell followed with her third score of the match from a King assist, giving the home squad a 6-4 advantage at the 18:50 mark.
  • Lock Haven clawed within on goal on three occasions during the final 12 minutes. Sophomore Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) stretched the Gannon lead back to two goals after the first two Lock Haven scores. Sophomore Micaela Capozzo (Medford, Mass./Pinkerton Academy) assisted on the first tally while Mitchell helped with the second.
  • The Bald Eagles cut the deficit to 8-7 on Hayley Kilian's goal with 1:42 remaining and won the ensuing draw control. But Capozzo caused a turnover with a minute to play.
  • Lock Haven had one last chance to tie the match after picking up a turnover in its defensive end with 15 seconds left. After a Gannon foul stopped the rush just past midfield with eight seconds remaining, the Bald Eagles were unable to get off a clean shot before the final horn sounded and set off a celebration by the Lady Knights who stormed the field.
