HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bloomsburg was off and running with the contest's first three goals, before Gannon stopped the run with a pair of its own goals.
  • Sophomore Kat Martinelli (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) and junior Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) scored on free-position attempts to cut the deficit to 3-2.
  • The two teams alternated six goals during the final 11 minutes of the first half. Freshman Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan)'s score off a King assist with one second left on the clock sent Gannon into the intermission with a 7-5 deficit.
  • The Lady Knights erupted out of the halftime session with three straight unassisted goals from King, Martinelli and Rotondo. The 4-0 run that stretched back to the first half gave Gannon its first lead of the afternoon at 8-7 with two minutes and 23 seconds expired in the second half.
  • Bloomsburg tied match at the 26:48 mark, before Gannon regained the lead 43 seconds later on Rotondo's third goal of the match off a free-position shot.
  • The Huskies countered with the decisive run of the match, ripping off five consecutive goals that turned a one-goal deficit into a 13-9 advantage with 10:17 to play.
  • Gannon refused to go away and produced three of the next four scores. Sophomore Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall), senior Tessa Mitchell (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and Rotondo found the back of the net to pull within 14-12 at the 10:27 mark.
  • Bloomsburg then pulled away with three straight goals and seven of the next eight to assume a 21-13 edge.
  • Mitchell and King scored during the final two minutes and 38 seconds to account for the final 21-15 score.
