GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Pitching dominated the first half of the game as Gannon had Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) in the circle and California (Pa.) countered with Portia McBride.
  • Gumbita struck out two in top of inning one and McBride sat down the side via strikeout in the bottom half of the inning.
  • California (Pa.) broke through with its first run in the top of the fourth inning. The Lady Vulcans pushed across an unearned run on a Hailey Wilson single to right field.
  • The Lady Vulcans added two more in the fifth inning. Kaylyn Roose singled home Logan Blake to make it 2-0 and Megan Jahoda made the score 3-0 on a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Emily Price.
  • The Lady Knights got on the board in the sixth. Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) rounded the bases on a Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) groundout and throwing error by California (Pa.).
  • Down 3-1, Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) led off the seventh with a pinch-hit home run to right-center field. She drew the Lady Knights to within 3-2.
  • Taylor Robblee managed to get the final three outs for California (Pa.) and they hung on for the one-run victory.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) hit a pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning.
  • Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) pitched a complete game, only allowing one earned run on seven hits. She also recorded six strikeouts.
  • Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) was 2-for-2 with one run scored.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • It was the Lady Knights first pinch-hit home run since Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) hit a walk-off bomb against Seton Hill on April 1.
  • Gannon played in its fifth-straight one-run game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Gannon got on the board first in the second game. Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) had a two-out single in the second inning and Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) followed with an RBI-double. Gannon led 1-0.
  • The Lady Knights extended its lead in the bottom of the third. Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) lined a ball off the pitcher that went sailing into right field, Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) scoring on the play. The Morgan hit made the score 2-0 in the favor of Gannon.
  • California (Pa.) cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth. Taylor Robblee singled to left, bringing home Roose.
  • The Vulcans completed the comeback in the fifth, taking a 3-2 lead on a Kaity Finley two-RBI single.
  • Gannon wasn't going down without a fight. Morgan Nyman (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) had a pinch-hit at-bat in the sixth with runners on second and third. Nyman produced a ground-ball to the right side, scoring Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) from third. The game was tied at three headed to the seventh.
  • The Lady Knights had six last at-bat victories coming into this game and as fate would have it, they had another opportunity to win in walk-off fashion on Friday.
  • Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) led off with a single and was bunted into scoring position by Ingerick.
  • Robblee began to pitch to Perich but seemed to be at the end of her rope. She began stalling by holding the ball in the circle. The umpire awarded Perich a ball in the count for Robblee not pitching in a timely fashion. With a 2-0 count, California (Pa.) made the switch to Kaity Davis.
  • Perich worked the count to 3-1 and lashed a ball to center, setting up runners at the corners with one out and Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) at the plate.
  • Morgan had a 1-2 count before the fourth offering was a blooper over the second  baseman's head for the game-winner. Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) scored on the play.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) went 2-for-4 with two RBI's.
  • Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) pitched a complete game, picking up her seventh victory of the season. She allowed three earned runs and struck out six Lady Vulcans.
  • Martinez had a 2-for-3 game and four-hit day.
