HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon's ace, Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe), got the start in game one and looked strong in the circle.
  • Gumbita got the Griffins out in order in the top of the first inning.
  • Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) had the Lady Knights first hit with a double to center field in the second inning.
  • Seton Hill had the first scoring opportunity in the fourth inning. Amanda Huff knocked a one-out single to center and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Victoria Stock hit a blooper that went over the short stop and between left field. An errant throw to third base sailed out of play and Seton Hill was awarded home.
  • Seton Hill pitcher, Amanda Huff, was hit in the hand in the sixth inning but managed to finish the inning. She attempted to begin the seventh against lead-off batter, Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda), but was replaced after three pitches by Leighann Pettis. Pettis finished the at-bat with a walk to Morgan.
  • Wilp popped up and Tanilli struck out before Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter with the final out looming. Taliani ripped the first pitch she saw to center field, over the fence.
  • The home run marked the second time in three games that Gannon won on a walk-off home run. Jen Moran (West Mifflin, Pa./Fox Chapel) hit a home run against Lake Erie on Wednesday in the Lady Knights' final at-bat.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • It was Taliani's third home run of the season, and first in walk-off fashion.
  • Gumbita went seven innings, allowing just five hits, one unearned run and striking out four batters.
  • The Lady Knights had just three hits in the game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon is 3-2 in one-run games after the 2-1 victory against Seton Hill.
  • Gumbita tossed her ninth complete game of the season and 54th of her career.
  • Saturday's doubleheader marked the beginning of the 2017 PSAC schedule for the Lady Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Game two shaped up to be a low-scoring affair like game one.
  • Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) got the nod in the second game and had the Griffin batters on their heels all afternoon.
  • Perich only allowed three hits, had two strikeouts and produced 11 ground-ball outs on the afternoon.
  • Gannon scored its first run in the second inning as Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) reached and proceeded to steal second base. Taliani lined a single to right field to move Tanilli up to third base and Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) got her home on a squeeze play. Gannon led 1-0.
  • Gannon tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning. Ingerick scored on a double play turned by the Griffins and the Lady Knights led, 2-0.
  • Perich finished out the game in the seventh and earned her third victory of the season.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
  • Perich pitched a complete game allowing just three hits and striking out two batters.
  • Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) went 2-for-3 with a double.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • It was Gannon's sixth shutout of the season and third in the last five games.
  • Gannon's 15-6 record is identical to the 2015 Lady Knights through 21 games when Gannon finished 29-16 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon softball will play a doubleheader at Mercyhurst on Sunday, April 2. The games were pushed back from Friday due to rain.
  • The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
  • Gannon is 83-50 all-time against their crosstown rival.
