SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Both Gannon competitive cheer teams were at their best once again Saturday afternoon at the JAMFEST! Cool Jam in Syracuse, New York. The co-ed team topped the University of Rochester while the all-girl squad placed second out of seven teams.
Gannon's co-ed team out-scored the University of Rochester by an 89.78-81.38 margin. The Golden Knights either won outright or tied the Yellowjackets in every category. In addition, Gannon's co-ed group produced the highest score of any Division II and III teams in attendance. Score highlights included a 4.9 out of five points for toss execution and 4.7 out of five points for pyramid difficulty. The squad received 9.7 out of 10 points on routine composition and 9.73 out of 10 points on overall performance. Gannon's co-ed raw score was 91.78 points.
The Gannon all-girl team finished second with 85.03 points, narrowly behind first-place SUNY Brockport's 86.5-point total. Jefferson Community College (84.36), Keuka College (84.29), Rochester Institute of Technology (83.4), SUNY Cortland (83.4) and Mount St. Mary (79.6) completed the team standings.
The Lady Knights received the highest score in their division on standing tumbling and running tumbling execution, earning four out of five points in both categories. The squad tied for the highest score on jump execution with 3.8 out of five points. Gannon's all-girl raw score was 86.53 points.
Both Gannon competitive cheer teams will have almost two weeks off before returning to action Friday, March 17 at the CANAM Collegiate Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
