HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Point Park dented the scoreboard first with a single run in the fourth inning. Alyssa McMurtie scored on a Becca Babincak bunt.
  • Gannon responded in the next half inning. The Lady Knights put two on-base with a Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) single and Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) double to left field.
  • With Martinez and Wilp on base, Moran hit a ball deep enough to the outfield to allow Martinez to come home. Gannon tied the game at one.
  • In the top of the sixth inning Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) led with a walk. She remained on the base paths until Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) clobbered a two-out double to plate Szajn with the go-ahead run.
  • Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) ripped a ball to the shortstop in the next at-bat that couldn't be handled by the Pioneers, Ingerick scored. Ingerick's run gave the Lady Knights an important insurance run.
  • Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) closed out the game in the top of the seventh inning for her seventh victory of 2017.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Ingerick notched her first double as a Lady Knight. She went 1-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.
  • Gumbita went seven innings, allowing one earned run on six hits. She also struck out seven and walked three.
  • Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) had a 3-for-3 day with one run scored.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gumbita tossed her seventh complete game of the campaign and 52nd of her career.
  • Wednesday represented Gannon's first true road games of the season. The Lady Knights first 15 contests were all on a neutral playing field.
  • Gumbita sits second among PSAC players with 66 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Gannon jumped out early in game two against the Pioneers. Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) led off the game with a single and Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) belted her home with a double to left field. Gannon led 1-0 after one inning.
  • Jen Moran (West Mifflin, Pa./Fox Chapel), Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) and Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) all produced RBI-hits in the third inning to balloon the lead to 5-0 after the third inning.
  • The score remained the same until Taliani came back to the plate in the fifth inning and crushed a ball to left field for a home run. Gannon pushed its lead out to 6-0.
  • Ashley Bower (Middleport, N.Y./Royalton-Hartland) pinch hit in the sixth inning for Martinez and delivered a single to right field, scoring Jenn Krider (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Linesville) who was on second base. The Lady Knights extended its lead to 7-0.
  • Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) worked for all 21 outs. The final out may have been the most intense. With Shannon Davis on second base, Delaney Baumis hit a single up the middle and Davis rounded third headed home. Taliani delivered a strike from center field to gun down Davis at the plate, preserving the shutout for Gannon.
