Gannon Competitive Cheer Co-Ed and All-Girl Teams Sweep JDRF Cheer for a Cure Titles

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. - The Gannon competitive cheer program began its 2017 season Saturday afternoon with a bang as both the co-ed and all-girl teams took home first-place trophies in the college division at the JDRF Cheer for a Cure in Niagara Falls, New York. Both squads beat out second-place Brockport State.

The co-ed team topped all competition with a 79.8 score out of a possible 90 points. The top scores came in overall effect (9.6), jumps (9.55), standing tumbling (9.25) and tosses (9.1). All scores were out of a possible 10 points.

The squad's best total came in overall performance where it secured 29.1 points out of 30. The Golden Knights recorded 24.9 out of 30 points for a building skills score and 27.8 out of 30 points for a tumbling skills score. Only two points were deducted for stunt falls.

The all-girl team placed first with a total score of 71.25 out of 90 points. The group generated scores in 10-point categories of 9.3 in overall effect, 8.55 in jumps and 8.1 in tosses. The Lady Knights' resume included 28.9 points for overall performance, 22.85 in tumbling skills and 19.5 in building skills. The maximum total of possible points for the last three events was 30 points.

Gannon has captured first-place trophies every time it has competed at the JDRF Cheer for the Cure during the last three seasons. The Golden Knights return to action Sunday, February 12 at the Champion Cheer Central Red Hot Competition in Clarion, Pa.
