THE RUNDOWN
  • Score: Edinboro 69, Gannon 40

  • The Short Story: Lanise Saunders (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) led the Gannon Lady Knights with 12 points and a career-high five blocks in a 69-40 defeat to Edinboro on Wednesday night (Feb. 15) at the Hammermill Center.
     
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lanise Saunders (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) opened the game with a bucket from the paint to give the Lady Knights an early 2-0 lead.
  • Edinboro countered with a Michaela Barnes layup and pulled out to a 15-7 advantage over the next seven minutes.
  • Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) hit three free throws while Kelsey Herbert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) added a layup to pull the Lady Knights to within three by the end of the quarter, 15-12.
  • Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) knotted the game up at 15 on a three-pointer at the 7:08 mark of the second quarter.
  • Edinboro took the lead back on a Jontay Walton layup and proceeded on a 19-4 run to end the quarter. The Fighting Scots took a 34-19 lead to the break.
  • Saunders opened the third quarter with a bucket, drawing the Lady Knights two points closer.
  • Edinboro outscored Gannon 15-8 in the third quarter and led 49-27 headed into the final period.
  • Saunders scored her 11th and 12th points of the night as the fourth quarter began. She scored the first bucket in three of the four quarters against the Fighting Scots.
  • After the Saunders bucket, Edinboro went on a 9-0 run before Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) netted a bucket at the 5:16 mark. Gannon down, 58-31.
  • Braungart made it back-to-back buckets as she lined up a three at the 3:57 mark and finished with nine points in the quarter. Edinboro finished out the game, 69-40.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Lanise Saunders (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) led the Lady Knights in points (12), rebounds (9) and blocks (5).
  • Gannon shot just 13-of-40 from the field and 3-of-16 from three-point range.
  • Edinboro connected on 26-of-68 from the floor and 11-of-24 from three range.
  • Braungart added in a nine-point, three assist game for the Lady Knights.
  • The Fighting Scots held a 29-5 advantage in points off turnovers.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) moved to 19th all-time for most points in a season by a Gannon Lady Knight. She's scored 436 points in 26 games so far this season. Tonya Treharne is 18th with 440 points.
  • Saunders tied a career-high with five blocks in the game. She also had five rejections earlier this season against Findlay.
  • Saunders moved up to third among PSAC players in blocked shots this season (41), averaging 1.6 per game.
