  • The Short Story: Gannon Women's Basketball poured in a season-high 84 points to defeat Slippery Rock, 84-55, on Saturday, Feb. 18. Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) led the Lady Knights with 30 points and five assists.
     
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Slippery Rock's C.C. Dixon opened the game with a jumper before Gannon reeled off 11-straight points.
  • Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) drilled back-to-back threes to make the score 14-5 in favor of Gannon.
  • Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) ended the quarter with a triple and the Lady Knights were in front of the Rock 24-5 at the first intermission.
  • Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) and Lanise Saunders (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) opened the second quarter with three-consecutive layups.
  • Gannon pushed the lead to 29 points, 38-9, with 4:38 remaining in the half on two Mitchell three-pointers and a layup.
  • Slippery closed out the final four minutes on a 12-5 run, down 43-21.
  • The Rock closed gap to 17, 43-26, in the opening  minutes of the third quarter on two Dixon free throws.
  • Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) countered with a layup that started a 7-0 run for the Lady Knights.
  • Gannon maintained a 28-point lead headed into the final quarter, up 63-35.
  • Lanise Saunders (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) opened up the fourth period with a layup and Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) nailed a three-pointer. Gannon led 68-41 with 8:41 remaining.
  • Shanel Preston (East Brady, Pa./Karns City) collected her first points of the season on a bucket in the paint with 38 seconds remaining.
  • The Rock never inched closer as the Lady Knights outscored Slippery Rock in all four quarters, taking the game, 84-55.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon scored a season-high 84 points on 30-of-60 from the field.
  • The Lady Knights hit 10 triples and were 14-of-15 from the free-throw line.
  • Mitchell produced her third 30-point game of the season, hitting six threes and 11 field-goals overall.
  • Lanise Saunders (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) collected her ninth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) added 16 points, hitting three of four three-point attempts.
  • Mitchell, Rourke and Braungart each recorded five assists apiece for Gannon.
  • The Lady Knights tallied a season-high 20 assists on their 30 made baskets.
  • Gannon edged Slippery Rock 20-18 in points off turnovers.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) moved up to 16th all-time for most points in a season by a Gannon Lady Knight. Mitchell has 466 points through 27 games so far this season. Christina Jackson holds the 15th -most points in a season with 473.
  • The 29-point victory was the largest of the season for the Lady Knights.
  • Gannon swept the season series against Slippery Rock. The Lady Knights also defeated the Rock, 64-63 on Jan. 25.
  • Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) moved into the conference lead with 66 made three-pointers this season after hitting six against Slippery Rock.
  • Mitchell also moved up to fourth in scoring average (17.3 ppg) after her 30-point performance on Saturday.
