ERIE, Pa. – Gannon Volleyball played for something a little extra today. The Lady Knights could clinch the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Northwest Division with a victory and they did just that. Gannon rolled in three sets over Cheyney, 25-10, 25-12, 25-14. With the victory, Gannon also clinched a spot in the 2017 PSAC tournament.
Toni Leitshuh (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) collected 10 kills in the victory for Gannon. It was her eighth double-digit kill performance of the season. Leitshuh has 171 kills on the season, averaging 1.73 per set.
Aubree Lanman (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) had a career-high seven kills across two sets. She also issued an assist and serve ace for the Lady Knights.
Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland),
Jordan Talevski (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) and
Lexi Johnson (Chandler, Ariz./Basha) all had career-days in terms of service aces. Beyers dished out eight, Talevski collected six and Johnson had four aces against the Lady Wolves. Gannon compiled 23 service aces as a team.
The Lady Knights will make their ninth-straight PSAC tournament, and are positioned third in the latest NCAA Atlantic regional rankings. The top eight teams at season's end advance to the NCAA tournament. Gannon has made the last eight tournaments.
Gannon improved to 23-5 on the season, 12-3 in the conference. Cheyney slipped to 0-23, 0-16 in the PSAC.
The Lady Knights will next play on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Mercyhurst. The Lady Knights slipped past the Lakers in the first matchup of the season, taking a five-set thriller. Tuesday's contest begins at 7:05 p.m.
