  • The Short Story: Gannon Women's Basketball earned its 700th victory in program history with a narrow 76-73 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory over West Chester on Saturday, Nov. 18.
     
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) and Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) opened up the game with back-to-back buckets for the Lady Knights.
  • Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) knocked down a three and Gannon opened up a 7-2 lead just a minute and 32 seconds into the contest.
  • West Chester went on a mini 9-2 run to take its first lead of the game, 11-9.
  • Gannon reclaimed a 16-14 lead by the end of the first period. Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) led the Lady Knights with five points in the opening eight minutes.
  • Rourke and Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) hit consecutive three-pointers to extend the GU lead to 22-14.
  • The lead hit double-digits as Emma Oas (Girard, Pa./Girard) connected on a triple, Gannon went up 30-20 with 5:49 remaining in the second quarter.
  • The Lady Knights held the 10-point advantage into halftime, 41-31.  Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) had 11 for GU.
  • Gannon held its largest advantage of the game with 35 seconds remaining in the third period. Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) hit a three to put Gannon up, 62-41.
  • West Chester turned up the heat in the fourth quarter. The Golden Rams pressed Gannon into nine turnovers in the final period and nibbled away at the lead.
  • Porscha Speller had a steal and a layup to cut the lead to 14, 62-48, with 9:11 remaining.
  • WCU's Lexi Bruno made the Lady Knight lead single digits, 62-54, with a triple at the 8:20 mark.
  • The Lady Knights never relinquished the lead, however. West Chester made it to within one, 70-69, before Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) nailed two free throws with 54 seconds remaining.
  • Gannon made six free throws in the final minute to escape with a 76-73 conference victory.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon was 25 of 56 (44.6%) from the field, while West Chester hit 28 of its 66 shots (42.4%).
  • The Lady Knights made a season-most 17 free throws. Gannon was 17-of-22 from the charity stripe.
  • Gannon edged West Chester, 32-29, in bench points.
  • Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) led all scorers with 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon reached its 700th victory in program history with the win on Saturday.
  • Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) recorded a career-high 12 points and six rebounds in the game.
  • Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) also had a season-best 7-point performance for the Lady Knights.
  • Mitchell also collected her 11th 20+ point game of her career.
