Gannon Volleyball Advances to PSAC Championship Match with 3-0 Victory Over West Chester (Video)

ERIE, Pa. – Gannon Volleyball advanced to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship match after a 3-0 sweep of the West Chester Golden Rams on Friday (Nov. 17) night. The Lady Knights took the semifinal match, 25-20, 26-24, 25-16. Video Highlights and a webcast replay are available for the event.

The Lady Knights will meet up with Pitt-Johnstown, who advanced to the championship after a five-set thriller against Edinboro in the first semifinal match. The championship match will be the first rematch between teams since the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Gannon defeated Pitt-Johnstown, 3-0, in the 2016 championship match.

Gannon took the first set, 25-20, over the Golden Rams before an extended second set that went the way of the Lady Knights, 26-24. Gannon carried that momentum into the third set and rolled over West Chester, 25-16, taking the match.

Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) led Gannon with 13 kills and 10 digs. It was Smith's team-leading 11th double-double of the season. Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio/Solon) was the only other Lady Knight with double-digit kills, registering 12.
Sara Crandall (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Cattaraugus-Little Valley) collected her 13th 20+ dig match of the season. Crandall had a match-high 24 digs and two service aces for the Lady Knights.

Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) issued 37 assists while adding seven digs and three blocks.

Maggie Wilhelm (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) converted six kills on nine attempts, hitting at a .667 clip.

Before the match, sophomore Lydia Lukomski (Portville, N.Y./Portville Central) received the PSAC Volleyball Champion Scholar award as the top scholar competing at the PSAC tournament championship site.

Gannon improved to 28-5 on the season while West Chester slipped to 24-8.

The Lady Knights return to the court on Saturday, Nov. 18, in the PSAC Championship match. Gannon and Pitt-Johnstown will square-off at 7 p.m. in the Hammermill Center. Live Stats and Live Video will be available for the match.
