SATURDAY STORYLINES
  • Gannon looks to snap a four-game losing streak after posting a convincing 55-22 victory at Southern Connecticut State in the opener. Three of the Golden Knights' four losses have come by a single score, including the last two by a combined six points.
  • The start has come against the 14th-toughest schedule in NCAA Division II. Gannon's first five opponents own a combined .700 (14-6) winning percentage.
  • Marc Jones (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) leads NCAA Division II in rushing yards per game (206.4), rushing yards (1,032), rushing touchdowns (11), total touchdowns (12), points per game (14.4) and all-purpose yards per game (239.40). The junior tailback had a PSAC single-game record 354 rushing yards against No. 12 Slippery Rock on September 23 as well as a school record 449 all-purpose yards.
  • Gannon has dropped its last five Homecoming games since a 2011 win against Slippery Rock.
  • Jones produced his fifth consecutive 100-yard rushing performance and sixth in 16 games as a Golden Knight last Saturday at Mercyhurst. He became the first Gannon player in program history to open a season with five consecutive 100-yard games.
  • Gannon tied a season-high with three sacks against the Lakers.
  • Jones became the sixth Golden Knight in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. His 1,032 yards through only five games represent the fifth-highest single-season total in program history.
  • Gannon and Mercyhurst had their match-up decide by a single score for the fourth consecutive year and three points or less for the third straight season.
  • Jones moved his all-purpose total to 1,197 yards which is the ninth-highest mark in school history.
  • Redshirt junior James Simms (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) recorded his first sack in a Gannon uniform during the first quarter.
  • Redshirt sophomore Andrew Berger (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) produced a sack for the third consecutive game.
  • The Golden Knights lost at Tullio Field for the first time since 2009.
  • Edinboro was picked to finish fourth in the PSAC Western Division according to the league's preseason coaches poll.
  • Gannon was predicted to finish fifth in that same poll.
  • Karch Holland ranks second all-time at Gannon with 218 career points. The senior can move past Jon Richardson (2006-09) and break Gannon's all-time scoring record with five more points. He converted 52 consecutive extra points from October 24, 2015-September 2, 2017.
  • Zach Phillips (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) sits seventh all-time at Gannon with 2,405 career passing yards. The redshirt junior can move past Matt Butler (2004-06) and into sixth place with 399 yards. His 1,724 passing yards in 2016 represented the eighth-highest single-season total in program history.
  • Holland ranks second all-time at Gannon in career field goals (28) through 37 career games. He needs five field goals to tie the program record of 33 set by Jeremy Ditzler (2007-10). Holland's 84.6 field goal percentage (11-13) as a freshman in 2014 represents the best single-season mark in school history. He also holds the school record for PATs with 134.
  • Jones is over halfway to Gannon's single-season rushing record with 1,032 yards through only five games. Brock Jones holds the current record with 1,628 yards in 2014. Marc Jones (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) is in the same situation in all-purpose yards (1,197) and points (72). Brock Jones also holds those single-season records with 1,826 yards and 108 points.
  • Jarod Morrison (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) set a new program single-game record against Slippery Rock by averaging 58.3 yards per punt. The junior booted punts of 61 yards and 65 yards. Both punts rank among the top 10 in school history.
  • Jones has generated 159 rushing yards more than the next best NCAA Division II player. Stanford's Bryce Love is the only other student-athlete at any level of the NCAA with more rushing yards. Love sits 56 yards ahead of Jones with 1,088 yards.
  • Morrison enters Saturday's contest with a 40.9 punting average on 58 career punts. It currently ranks first all-time in program history ahead of Adam Schaffer's 39.4 average on 122 career punts from 2011-13.
  • Gannon has recorded three winning seasons during the last four years with a 6-5 mark in 2015, 9-2 record in 2013 and 6-5 mark in 2013. The program's streak of three straight winning seasons represented its longest since producing a program-record four consecutive winning seasons from 1992-95. Gannon has recorded 13 winning campaigns in school history, including a stretch of five in six seasons from 1990-95.
