Gannon Women’s Soccer Falls to Indiana (Pa.) in Double-Overtime, 3-2

  • The Short Story: The Gannon women's soccer team saw its two-game win streak snapped Saturday afternoon in a 3-2 double-overtime loss to Indiana (Pa.) at South Campus Field.
 
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A solid defensive effort from both teams kept things scoreless in the first 45 minutes of action. The Crimson Hawks held a 6-3 advantage in shots in the opening half, but Gannon goalkeeper Danitza Indacochea (Vaughan, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc) made three saves to keep the hosts off the board.
  • Coming back from the break, Sarah Kaiser (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) put the Lady Knights up 1-0 in the 53rd minute with a hard shot into the right side of the goal.
  • In the 64th minute, IUP's Kallie Conte tied the game up with a turn-around shot from the top of the box.  
  • Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) was awarded a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, which she converted for her team-leading 12th goal of the season.
  • Gannon held onto the 2-1 lead for 10 minutes until Conte tied things up once again with 8:34 left in regulation.
  • The Crimson Hawks tallied two more shots in the second half, but neither found the back of the net as the game headed to overtime.
  • The Lady Knights held a 2-1 shot advantage in the first ten minutes of overtime, but Mya Hilliard scored the game-winner in double-overtime (108th minute) to seal the deal for the Crimson Hawks.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon and IUP were even in shots, 13-13.
  • Gannon held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • The Crimson Hawks committed more fouls than the Lady Knights, 12-9.
  • Indacochea made six saves, while IUP goalie Madeline Smakulski made two.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The loss snaps Gannon's two-game winning streak. 
  • In only her sophomore year, Lewis has already racked up 53 career points, which is eighth all-time at Gannon.
  • Her 29 points this season (12 goals/five assists) is seventh in Gannon single-season history.
