GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro scored the first three points of the opening set and it proved to be a common number. It was the first of 18 different three-point leads during the opening stanza.
  • Leading 23-21, the Fighting Scots secured the opening win with a kill and attack error.
  • The second set went back-and-forth, featuring nine ties. The final one came at 13.
  • Gannon then took the lead for good with a kill by redshirt senior Rebekah Smith (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) and service ace by freshman Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland).
  • A mini 3-0 run pushed the visitors' lead to 19-15 after a service error and consecutive kills from seniors Anne-Mari Kaur (Tallinn, Estonia/Tallinn Lillekula Upper Secondary School) and Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio/Solon).
  • Gannon later ran away with the second set after another 3-0 blitz push the difference to 23-16. All three points came off the swing of Ansec.
  • An attack error brought an end to a 12-4 run that clinched a 25-17 Gannon win in set two.
  • The third set was tight again. The two teams played to ties at one, two, three, eight, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18 and 22.
  • Gannon snapped the final tie with another kill from Ansec. An Edinboro attack error and service ace by sophomore Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) then gave the Lady Knights a 2-1 lead in sets.
  • Outside of a 1-1 tie, Gannon held a slim lead for the majority of the fourth set until late. The Lady Knights owned a one-point lead on eight different occasions until opening an 18-14 advantage on an attack error.
  • Trailing 20-16, Edinboro rebounded with a 5-1 run to knot the set at 21. Ties followed at 22, 23 and 24. But consecutive attack errors gave the home squad a 26-24 win, tying the overall match at two.
  • The decisive fifth set had several momentum swings. Edinboro initially grabbed a 3-1 lead.
  • Gannon later responded with a 5-1 run to assume a 7-5 edge. The blitz was highlighted by a pair of Beyers service aces and two kills from freshman Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran).
  • However, Edinboro came off the deck to forge ties at eight and nine.
  • The Fighting Scots finally gained the lead for good on a Sydney Trathen kill, giving them a 10-9 advantage.
  • Edinboro followed with five of the next eight points to capture 15-12 fifth-set win and thrilling 3-2 match victory.
