ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon Volleyball team got back to its winning ways against Slippery Rock on Saturday, Oct. 21. The Lady Knights swept the Rock, 25-15, 25-17, 25-21, claiming its ninth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory of the season.
Gannon carried early momentum and used it to win the opening set, 25-15. The Lady Knights were down midway through the second set but used a 9-1 run to open up a gap and take the second set, 25-17. The final set came down to the wire as Gannon squeaked out a 25-21 set victory.
Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio/Solon) led the Lady Knights with 15 kills, hitting at a .294 percentage.
Sara Crandall (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Cattaraugus-Little Valley) paced Gannon with 28 digs, her eighth 20+ dig performance of the season.
Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) had 22 assists in the victory, notching 20+ assists for the fifth time in 2017.
Maggie Wilhelm (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) led the way with five block assists.
Gannon improved to 19-4 overall, 9-2 in the PSAC. Slippery Rock won its first eight matches of the season before falling in 14 of the last 15. The Rock stands at 9-14, 1-10 in the conference.
The Lady Knights next head to Fairmont State on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in their final non-conference match of 2017. Gannon met up with Fairmont State in the first round of the NCAA Division II tournament a season ago. Gannon edged the Fighting Falcons in five sets.Â
