Gannon Lady Knights Register Season-High 18 Assists; Downed by Mansfield, 57-50

THE RUNDOWN
  • Score: Mansfield 57, Gannon 50

  • The Short Story: The Mansfield Mountaineers used a 23-12 advantage in the fourth quarter to rally against the Gannon Lady Knights, 57-50. Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) led the Lady Knights with 15 points and six rebounds.
     
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon sprinted out to a 10-1 advantage in the opening seven minutes of play. Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) provided seven of the 10 points for the Lady Knights with a three-pointer and two layups.
  • Mansfield closed the gap to 10-8 by the end of the first quarter.
  • The Lady Knights were cold from the field to begin quarter two. The Lady Knights went 4:19 before Kelsey Herbert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) snapped the drought with a high-quality shot in the paint. Gannon trailed, 14-12.
  • In the final 4:26 of the quarter, Mansfield and Gannon only managed one made basket between the two teams. A Rourke three-ball at the 2:08 mark made the score 20-17, in favor of Mansfield, headed in to the half.
  • Mansfield led 30-25 midway through the third quarter when a Rourke triple kicked off a 13-4 run over the final five minutes of the quarter.
  • The run included baskets from Rourke, Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering), Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) and Lanise Saunders (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice).
  • Gannon went in to the fourth quarter with a 38-34 lead.
  • Mansfield's Melanie Taylor began the final period with a three-pointer at the 9:19 mark. The Lady Knights and Mountaineers traded baskets before Bella Ricci gave Mansfield a 41-40 lead with 6:52 left in the game.
  • Brielle Kelly added two free throws at the 5:19 mark to go up 43-40.
  • Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) netted a three-pointer at the 4:37 mark to tie the game at 43.
  • Tied at 45, Mansfield finished the game on a 12-5 run and took the game, 57-50.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) led the Lady Knights with 15 points and six rebounds. The freshman is averaging 11.2 points per game over the last six games.
  • Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) finished with a career-high seven assists.
  • The Lady Knights had a season-high 18 assists in the game.
  • Gannon outscored Mansfield,11-5, off the bench and edged the Mountaineers, 22-18, in the paint.
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Lanise Saunders (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) posted her third-straight game of 10+ rebounds. It's the second time Saunders has done that this season.
  • Saturday's loss to Mansfield is the first in nine matchups against the Mountaineers. Gannon is 7-0 all-time against Mansfield at home.
  • Mitchell poured in 10 points and five rebounds. Mitchell is one of only four PSAC players to rank inside the top 10 in scoring and assists. Miki Glenn (California), Angela Heintz (Mercyhurst) and Lexi Carpenter (Slippery Rock) are the other three.
  • Mansfield is coached by former Gannon Women's Basketball Assistant Coach, Michael Whitling. He is assisted by former GU Women's Basketball player, Kelley Sundberg.
