The Gannon University volleyball team traveled to Lock Haven on Friday (Sept. 30) night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) showdown that lasted three sets, Gannon coming away winners, 25-7, 25-13, 25-23.
Gannon dominated set one, allowing just seven points. Seven is the fewest points given up in a set this season by the Lady Knights. Gannon also took sets two and three to sweep the three set series.
Beka Smith (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) led the Lady Knights with 13 kills and four blocks.
Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio /Solon) chipped in seven kills.
Jordyn Thiery (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) had a team-high 12 digs in the contest, bringing her season total to 127. Thiery is averaging 2.54 digs per set.
Hannah Kren (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) collected three digs (1,349) which moves her to within 15 digs of fourth place all-time on Gannon's career digs chart. Mandi Altomari collected 1,364 digs in her career from 2000-03.
Gannon improves to 14-1 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC. That's the best start to a season since 1993 when the Lady Knights started 17-0 and finished the season in the elite eight and a 28-6 record.
Lock Haven falls to 1-10, 0-3 in the conference.
The Lady Knights travel to Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, Oct. 1, for the back-end of their weekend trip. The match is set for 1 p.m. GU leads the all-time series, 8-2.
