Gannon Lady Knights' volleyball traveled to Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday (Oct. 1), falling short in a tough Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) battle, 25-23, 25-20, 26-24.
In set one Gannon trailed 23-21 and a UPJ service error drew the Lady Knights to within one.
Beka Smith (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) followed with a timely kill to knot the set at 23. The Lady Knights couldn't push ahead, however, giving up two points and falling, 25-23.
Set three came down to the wire as Smith and
Lauren Beck (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) combined to block a Pitt-Johnstown attack to knot the set at 24. Two Gannon miscues followed which sealed the match for UPJ, 26-24.
Hannah Kren (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) tied for team-high eight kills, while also adding 15 digs in the contest.
Kren's 15 digs tied Mandi Altomari for fourth all-time in career digs at Gannon. Altomari tallied 1,364 digs in her career from 2000-03.
Gannon combined for 24 blocks, led by
Lexi Johnson (Chandler, Ariz./Basha) and
Lauren Beck (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) who each tallied six apiece.
The Lady Knights fall to 14-2, 3-1 in the PSAC.
Pitt-Johnstown improves to 10-5 and 3-1 in the conference.
The Lady Knights look to bounce back at Clarion on Oct. 7. The contest will kick off at 7 p.m. Â
